Pembelajaran bahasa adalah pembelajaran budaya. Bahasa tidak bisa diajarkan sebagai bahasa mati yang hanya muncul dalam contoh kalimat baku di dalam kelas. Namun, dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, keterlibatan budaya memunculkan kekhawatiran bahwa siswa akan merasa asing dengan lingkungannya sendiri. Hal ini bisa diantisipasi dengan memberikan konteks lokal pada pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di samping konteks asing yang tak terelakkan.

Dalam memaknai pemahaman proses pembelajaran semacam ini, pihak Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) mengusung kegiatan yang bertajuk Pelatihan Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya lokal melalui pagelaran drama. Kegiatan ini merupakan hasil kerja sama antara FBS UNNES dengan Taman Budaya Raden Saleh Semarang, didukung oleh Dinas Pariwisata Kota Semarang serta beberapa pihak terkait lainnya.

Para mahasiswa Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris semester 6 UNNES tampil dalam pagelaran Drama Ramayana berbahasa Inggris dengan mengambil tema Upon the Corona. Pagelaran drama ini bertempat di Gedung Ngesti Pandhawa Taman Budaya Raden Saleh, Tegalwareng Semarang pada hari Sabtu 18 Juli 2009 pukul 08.30 WIB sampai 12.30 WIB.

Dra. Rahayu P.H M.Hum selaku pembina kegiatan tersebut mengatakan, dengan teknik yang tepat, kegiatan pembelajaran semacam ini akan menjadi sangat strategis mengingat pembelajaran bahasa Inggris kini bukanlah sebuah pilihan lagi melainkan telah menjadi kebutuhan untuk mengekspresikan diri dan gagasan kepada dunia. Berkaitan dengan strategi pembelajaran bahasa Inggris melalui drama, sebelum pementasan disajikan sejumlah tips bermain drama.

Sasaran dari kegiatan Pagelaran Drama Ramayana berbahasa Inggris ini adalah guru-guru terutama guru Bahasa Inggris, para peserta didik di bangku sekolah, mahasiswa, masyarakat umum dan pihak pemerintah. Manfaat yang diharapkan adalah: a) bagi guru, sebagai model pembelajaran bahasa Inggris melalui drama, b) bagi siswa, sebagai pajanan yang diperlukan dalam belajar bahasa Inggris, c) bagi masyarakat dan pemerintah sebagai himbauan melestarikan dan memberi nilai tambah pada budaya lokal.

Rekor 35 pertandingan internasional tak terkalahkan yang diukir Spanyol membuat mereka menjadi kandidat kuat juara Piala Konfederasi 2009.


Tak diragukan lagi kualitas team spanyol, hal ini dibuktikan dengan adanya kiper sekaligus kapten Iker Casillas yang mempunyai kemampuan mumpuni dalam menghalau bola lawan dan Carles Puyol dan Carlos Marchena di jantung pertahanan Spanyol, sementara Sergio Ramos menjadi andalan di bek kanan dan diharapkan dapat tampil seperti saat membawa La Seleccion juara Euro 2008.


Di lini tengah, Spanyol memiliki salah satu armada terbaik dunia, karena dapat menurunkan setidaknya dua pasang gelandang tengah yang nyaris tak berbeda kemampuannya. Kemampuan Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Marcos Senna, dan Cesc Fabregas tak perlu diragukan lagi, ditambah dengan David Silva yang siap memberikan tusukan dari sayap.

Duet Fernando Torres dan David Villa menjadi tumpuan di lini depan, dan Fernando Llorente, Bojan Krkic, serta Raul dapat menjadi pendamping sepadan jika salah satu striker utama absen, meskipun dua nama terakhir jarang dipanggil.


Dengan kekuatan dan konsistensi tim seperti saat ini, Spanyol sangat layak untuk melaju dengan mulus dari babak grup menuju semi-final dan kemudian diharapkan masuk final Piala Konfederasi. Gelar juara di Afrika Selatan 2009 juga tak jauh dari jangkauan, sekaligus dapat membuktikan status mereka sebagai timnas nomor wahid dunia dan salah satu kandidat terkuat juara Piala Dunia 2010.

Selangkah lagi juara piala konfederasi 2009 akan ditautkan. Siapakah yang akan menjadi juara? Apakah Spanyol atau Brazil? Will see.

Juara Eropa Spanyol memastikan tempat di semifinal Piala Konfederasi setelah mencatat kemenangan 1-0 atas Irak, Rabu (17/6) malam WIB di Stadion The Free State .

Kemenangan itu membuat Spanyol menyamai rekor dunia kemenangan beruntun 14 kali pada pertandingan internasional dan memperpanjang langkah tidak terkalahkan mereka menjadi 34 pertandingan, hanya berbeda satu dengan rekor dunia 35 pertandingan yang dipegang Brasil.

Sundulan pemain depan Spanyol David Villa yang membuahkan gol pada menit ke-55, juga membuat dia menjadi pencetak gol terbanyak kedua Spanyol, yakni 30 gol--beda 14 gol dengan rekor yang dipegang Raul yakni 44 gol.

Spanyol harus bekerja keras untuk merebut kemenangan di Grup A melawan juara Asia Irak yang menerapkan pola pertahanan yang sangat kuat, yang meskipun bermain imbang pada pertandingan pertama mereka melawan Afrika Selatan dan sekarang kalah, namun masih memiliki peluang ke empat besar.

Spanyol berada di puncak grup dengan enam poin, diikuti Afrika Selatan dan Irak, satu poin, dan Selandia Baru yang masih nol. Afrika Selatan akan menghadapi Selandia Baru, Kamis (18/6) dinihari WIB.
Brazil, Prancis, dan Australia, merupakan negara-negara lainnya yang meraih 14 kemenangan beruntun, berdasarkan statistik resmi FIFA.

The CW confirmed that Smallville will be back for a ninth season. Since Allison is already signed for next season this means we will be able to enjoy Allison as Chloe for atleast one more year.

Smallville: Will Tom Welling Sign Up for Season 9?


Smallville fans worried when both Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum decided not to sign up for season 8 of the series. Thankfully, the cast changes didn't affect the overall quality of the show. With dangerous new villains and a renewed focus on Clark's ultimate destiny, the current season of Smallville has been one of the best of the series. Fans are happy and the ratings are sky-high, but will the CW's cash cow live to see season 9?

TV Guide recently interviewed Smallville executive producer Darren Swimmer, who said that issues with "actor availability" may prevent season 9 from happening. Could Tom Welling be ready to hang up his blue shirt and red jacket?
As hard as it is to believe, Tom Welling is already 31 years old. That makes him four years older than Dean Cain when he began playing the Man of Steel on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and five years older than Brandon Routh when he starred in Superman Returns. It's no surprise that Welling might want to move on to other things after playing the same role for eight years, but will he actually leave if the CW decides to renew the show for a ninth season? My guess is that he'll stay if the right amount of cash is offered, but we won't know for certain until early 2009.

Darren Swimmer mentioned that he's prepared for a series finale if it comes to pass, but there are still a few things he wants to see Clark explore before everything is wrapped up. "Clark's now in full control of his powers and basically accepting the fact that he's going to become Superman," Swimmer said. "The formation of the dual identity is what he's going to be negotiating from here on out. He'll start to experiment."

New episodes of Smallville return to the CW on January 15, which is when fans will see the Legion of Super-Heroes come to Metropolis. Before season 8 comes to an end, viewers can also look forward to a return of the Justice League, an appearance from the villainous Toyman, and three episodes that show Clark struggling with his dual identity. Will Clark's acceptance of his heroic destiny mark the end of Smallville, or will Tom Welling and the CW come together to make season 9 possible? We'll have to wait and see.
